We were interested in creating a series of work based on the idea of twin experiments. As we researched this idea, we began to uncover some disturbing accounts from the Second World War; specifically the experiments performed by Dr Josef Mengele.

Most of the accounts that we read were simply too horrific to portray in a sensitive and well-informed manner, so we decided to move the ideas from fact to fiction – to tap into the 19th-century blend of science and entertainment and shift it into the 20th-century aesthetic of B-movie sci-fi. This helped to remove the activities from the real world and let us explore them as another form of contemporary folklore.
